I give up...

Ok, I'm up for any suggestions...big or small...easy or complicated...stupid or common sense...
My little Jacob is 3 and 1/2 and refuses to use the potty. I've never yelled at him...always encouraged every effort he has given. I even tell him how wonderful he is when he tells me he pees in his diaper. At least he's acknowledging it is happening??? He tried one time by himself and was going to b so proud, but fell in and out of the toilet...pretty traumatic and embarrasing...and probably hurt. There has got to b a way to train him...I know he's smart enough. I've tried staying home and doing the underwear only thing over a 3-4 day span...no improvement. Babysitter tried for weeks at a time...I know how to train a toddler and so does she...Ava trained in 24 hours and babysitter's boy trained in 2 days...I know we're not stupid. We've tried "shooting the gun at the cheerios", "aiming at the fishies", etc, etc. Have all the spider man accessories, have sit, have stood, etc. Have tried to pee off the porch, outside, with daddy, etc. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't give up He's a BOY! Griffin was close to 3 1/2 before he was potty trained. I was just like you are feeling. Two things to try...Sit him on the potty backwards so he can catch/hold on to the tank part of the toilet..less likely to pee out that way or fall in...also the final thing that worked with Griffin was the Bare-bottom routine. I put him in underwear and if he peed or pooped in them then he didn't get to wear underwear and I just put a big t-shirt on him and he had to run around with no underwear..and then he would see/feel himself going because there is nothing to catch his pee or poop! It didn't take too long with the bare bottom route..just a little more patience for momma! And know there is no known child who hasn't gone to college not being potty trained..thats all that matters! ha ha. Also we had a toy hay baler on the top of the fridge for motivation...I'm pretty sure it sat on top of the fridge for nearly a year! Megan was 18 months potty trained and Natalie was right at 2 potty trained I thought for sure there was something I wasn't doing right because Griffin was so far behind them..but its just the boy in him.

Sorry Jamie! I know you are frustrated, especially since Ava was potty-trained early. I know there is a book/email you can buy called 3 Day Potty-Training. I think it involves using panties, sticker chart and not sure what else...I didn't buy it but a girl at work used it for her little girl...and she was potty-trained over the weekend!
