Parenting 101

Well, another potential ER trip last night....you guessed it...Spiderman tried to climb up on the bar last night and smacked his face (not sure what part b/c there was blood everywhere) on his way to the floor. Ended up, I think, as just a busted lip...and a lot of drama. Then, when bedtime came around, he was "scared of the mean things outside". He cried and cried. When I made him lay down, he kicked and threw himself...then he had to get in trouble, which is so heartbreaking when they're going to bed. We had a long talk and I think he ended up having sweet dreams.
I made a serious decision last night...through all the bedtime drama (sister included) that I am gonna "put my mommy pants on" (as dr. phil says) and enforce bedtime rules. My kids are so fatigued...I think it is starting to affect their attitudes, etc. After watching Dr. Phil last night on DVR, I decided I am getting to the "being their friend" point when I'm supposed to be the mommy, the enforcer, the authority. It's a big struggle for me...constantly, but I'm gonna give it my best shot. From now on, bedtime is bedtime and if you wanna cry about it, that is fine, but you'll do it in your bed at 8:30! I hope they don't hate me in the end...Dr. Phil says too bad...they can't hate you, b/c they have to depend on you for everything. I really don't live my life by Dr. Phil, but I do respect a lot of his parenting lessons.
Ava and I had a girls night out and went to see Madagascar II...We picked up a few strays along the way (just kidding guys)...Brittany, Carmen, Trevor, Morgan, and Trista...it was quite a group. The girls giggled the whole way there and back. The little girls thought it would b cool to sit in the front row by themselves, but my little princess ended up in my seat...we had a little drama, but nothing major...sometimes I wonder if we're starting puberty already!

That's one of my biggest struggles with Hunter, is trying not to be just her friend, but be her mom! In the long run she'll thank me :) Hunter and I saw that movie Sunday, it was so funny; I think I laughed all the way home too! haha

Oh Jamie your family makes me laugh so hard! I am glad that we are not the only ones that have drama. BTW, if you want to know about signs of puberty just ask your friend Laura who is raising a sassy 11 year old!!!

Oh, I am so glad that I am not the only one dealing with a 5yr. old princess. The sassiness that comes out of her mouth I have no idea where she gets it from. I think it is just programmed in. I finally had to sit her in the corner the other day for it.
We need to start a support group.lol.
Glad that Jake is okay from his fall and his Pirate was saved. Great job, dad:)

Were you at our house last night...this all sounds familiar?! ;) Braylee is such a night owl and doesn't understand why we're allowed to stay up later than her! Alex says I'm too easy on them. So, we're trying to set up some new rules about bedtime...I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Hey- thanks for the phone call this morning...I can pretty much guess if my phone rings before 7:30 that it's you! ;)

Well, I don't have a girl, but Brycen's attitude has shown up a lot more lately... Drives me nuts, especially since my patience level isn't what it normally is! I don't want to be mad at him all the time, but I don't want him to grow up and be out of control either! Such a tough line to walk.
